Boro

Paper, threads & screen printing, 85 x 45 cm | 2016

The task for this project was to design a poster for a fictitious exhibition in the future. The poster should reflect the work itself and represent a piece of art that is part of the exhibition. My realisation deals with the topic of boro.
Boro is a Japanese word that means ‘patched together’ and describes traditional Japanese textiles that are made from fabric scraps.
With this in mind, I created a poster in the boro style, using old and partially dyed paper, which is partly held together with sashiko stitches. The natural ageing process of the paper results in colour gradients and patterns that almost appear intentional. The exhibition information was added using screen printing.
