ON THE EDGE -INTERPLAY BETWEEN CONTROL AND CHANCE

textile collection (Munich Fabric Start)

The textile collection explores the exciting interplay between randomnessand structure. The original white fabric is not dyed in advance, but instead is dyed afterwards when it comes into contact with water. The colouring process develops in a completely unpredictable way.

The collection is based on a special technique in which fabric tubes are filled with natural dyes such as charcoal, earth and stone pigments, spirulina and litmus. These natural materials offer a wide range of earthy, green and blue tones. The flow of colour is not predetermined, but depends on the way the water interacts with the fabrics. The materials used as a base are cotton (old sheets),viscose and hemp.

The careful development of the surface structure of the fabrics contrasts with the unpredictable colouring. The lengths of fabric are woven or plaited together, giving the design order and structure. The collection plays with the tension between chance and order, nature and technology.
